Surrendering Disappointment: Taking Back My Peace

Hey friends,

Has there ever been a time when someone did something that made you seriously question if you could trust them? Have you ever been let down by someone you really looked up to, and felt like their mistake hurt even more because you trusted them to be different? It could be disappointment with a situation that didn’t turn out the way we hoped, or it could be disappointment with someone we trusted who let us down. Either way, it hurts. And let’s face it, no one likes feeling let down.

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12)

But here’s the thing: we are living in a world that can sometimes feel really dark, and as Christians, it’s easy to forget why we’re here. We are children of the one true Father, created to shine His light in a world that desperately needs it. That means even in the midst of disappointment, we have the power to reflect God’s light, even if we don’t feel like it.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14)

Disappointment doesn’t define you.

We all make mistakes. We all face struggles. And guess what? That’s okay. We are human, and we can’t be perfect. But we can choose obedience. When we find ourselves caught in disappointment, instead of letting it define us or take over, we need to look to Him. We can ask God to help us lay down that pain, that hurt, and that frustration at His feet. He is there to guide us through it, even when it feels impossible to let go.

“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Sometimes, people will say, “Let it go” or “Just forget about it,” but those words can feel empty when you’re stuck in the middle of a situation that hurts. It’s easier said than done, right? That’s why it’s so important to ask God for strength in our specific weaknesses. The enemy loves to attack us when we are vulnerable, and disappointment is one of his favorite ways to steal our peace. But we don’t have to let it win.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Surrendering to God’s light.

The key to finding light in the darkness of disappointment is surrender. I’ve been learning that nothing is too small to bring before God. Sometimes, I catch myself thinking that my problems aren’t important enough, especially when I see other people going through much harder situations. But here’s the truth: God cares about every single detail of our lives—big or small. He’s the God of the universe, but He’s also the God who cares about our every tear, every struggle, and every disappointment.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

I’m talking to myself here too because it’s easy to forget. When you’re feeling disappointed, remember: you’re not alone. You are a child of the King, and you have His power in you. So, when disappointment knocks at your door, instead of letting it settle in your heart, turn to God. Ask for His forgiveness if you’re holding onto that disappointment, and ask for His strength to let it go.

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

The light is always there.

The light of Christ is always available, no matter how dark things seem. It’s there to guide you through the toughest of times. Sometimes we just need to be still, breathe, and let go of our control. We can’t always understand the “why” behind our disappointment, but we can trust the One who holds our future. Trust that He will turn your sorrow into joy, your weakness into strength, and your disappointment into a testimony of His goodness.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)

I’m cheering for you as you walk through disappointment. Remember: you don’t have to carry it alone. God is always with you, ready to help you find the light even in the darkest moments.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)

In surrendering our disappointments, we not only find peace, but we also remember that we are never alone. God is with us in every season, even in the midst of disappointment. As we trust in His plan, we can rest knowing He’s beside us, guiding us through. Keep surrendering, knowing that His presence is constant, and His peace will carry you through this season.
