Finding My Purpose: God's Plan for Me

Hey Sisters in Christ,

As a teen, I often find myself asking: What’s my purpose? It’s a question that’s been on my mind for a while now, and I know I’m not alone in wondering. I’m in that phase of life where everything feels like it’s in motion. I’m figuring out who I am, what I believe, and where I’m supposed to go next. I’ve realized that it’s normal to question your purpose, especially when life is so full of changes. But being a Christian has made me see this question in a different light. My purpose isn’t something I have to discover on my own—it’s something that God has already planned for me.

My Purpose Is Part of God’s Plan

I sometimes get caught up in trying to figure out my life, but there’s this one verse in the Bible that always brings me peace when I’m feeling lost. It’s from Jeremiah 29:11, and it says:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

When I read that, I realize that my purpose isn’t up to me to figure out alone. God has already planned it. He has good plans for me—plans that will give me hope, even when I can’t see where my life is headed right now. That thought gives me comfort, because I know I don’t have to have it all figured out at this moment. God’s plan is perfect, and I can trust Him to guide me through it.

Who I Am Comes from God

I think one of the hardest parts of being a teen is the pressure to fit in. Everyone around me seems to know who they are, and I sometimes feel like I’m still figuring it out. With all the expectations from school, social media, and just being around other people, it can be hard to know where I stand. But when I remember who I am in Christ, I start to feel more secure in my identity. The Bible says in Genesis 1:27:

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

This reminds me that I am made in God’s image. I don’t need to try to be someone else or live up to the world’s standards. I am valuable just as I am, and my worth is rooted in who God says I am, not in what others think.

Seeking God in Prayer

When I feel unsure about my future or my purpose, prayer is one of the best ways for me to connect with God and hear from Him. I’ve learned that when I’m struggling, God wants to help me and give me the wisdom I need. James 1:5 says:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

Whenever I feel confused, I pray and ask God to give me wisdom. I don’t always hear an answer right away, but I know that He’s listening. It helps me remember that I don’t have to have all the answers. God is always there, ready to guide me when I need Him.

Serving Others

Sometimes, my purpose doesn’t feel like this big, life-changing thing that I need to figure out right away. Instead, I’ve realized that my purpose often shows up in smaller, everyday acts of service. I love helping out at church, volunteering with my friends, or just being there for someone who needs a listening ear. In Ephesians 2:10, it says:

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Serving others is a way I can step into God’s purpose for me. Even when I don’t know what my big “calling” is, I know that God has created me to love and serve others. Each small act of kindness helps me grow closer to what God is calling me to do.

Trusting in God’s Timing

I’ll be honest—sometimes I feel like I’m behind. Everyone around me seems to know what they want to do, and I feel like I’m still figuring it out. But I’ve had to remind myself that it’s okay to not have everything planned right now. God’s timing is perfect. In Ecclesiastes 3:1, it says:

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”

This verse is a reminder that there is a season for everything. I don’t need to rush to find my purpose. God will reveal it to me at the right time, and I can trust that He’s leading me in the direction I need to go.

Staying True to God’s Calling

As I try to figure out what my purpose is, I remind myself that once I sense God calling me to something, I need to be faithful to it. It’s easy to second-guess myself or worry about what others think, but Philippians 4:13 tells me:

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Even when I feel uncertain, I can trust that God will give me the strength to follow His calling. He’s not going to leave me to figure it all out on my own. He’s walking with me every step of the way.

Finding my purpose hasn’t been a straight line, and I know it won’t always be easy. But as I continue to trust God and lean into His Word, I’m confident that He is revealing my purpose bit by bit. I’m learning that my purpose isn’t just about what I’ll do in the future—it’s about how I live each day with Him. No matter where I am right now, God is already working in me and through me. And that’s a pretty amazing thing to know.

“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever.” – Psalm 138:8

So, if you’re feeling unsure about your purpose, remember that God has already planned it for you. Trust His timing, lean on His guidance, and know that you are loved and created for a purpose that only you can fulfill.
