Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone With Discipleship

Hey there, beautiful souls!

Discipleship is a big word, but it’s one that holds so much meaning for us as believers in Christ. And let’s be honest—sometimes it can feel really, really hard. It’s easy to talk about, but when we actually try to live it out, we hit a wall. The main reason? Our comfort zones.

Comfort zones are those little safe places where we feel secure. But guess what? Comfort zones are also full of fear, anxiety, and resistance. They keep us from stepping out in faith, from doing the very thing we were put on this earth to do—discipling and leading others to the love and grace of God.

We were made to share His truth, to teach about His love, and to guide others to Him. Yet, it’s easy to make excuses: “I’m too shy,” “I don’t know enough,” or “What if I fail?” But here’s the thing—our comfort zones are not where God wants us to stay. They are actually the barriers that keep us from fulfilling God’s calling on our lives.

We all have moments when we feel unsure or anxious about stepping out in faith. Maybe we feel unqualified to disciple others because we’re still learning ourselves. Maybe we fear judgment or rejection. But that’s where God’s strength comes in. God has given us everything we need to do His work. We may feel weak, but He is strong. When we step outside of our comfort zone, we let God show His power in us.

God equips us with WisdomCourageStrength, and Faith. These aren’t just words—they’re the gifts He gives us so we can share His love with others. If we’re feeling anxious or inadequate, we can trust that God is guiding us and that He will give us the words and the courage to reach others.

Sometimes, we may feel like we don’t know enough or that we can’t help someone else with their walk because we’re still learning and growing ourselves. But remember, God is guiding us all toward eternal life. And He’s asking us to help others on that same journey.

Jesus never asked us to be perfect before we start discipling. He just asked us to follow Him. And part of following Him is sharing the hope, the truth, and the love that we’ve experienced with others. We want everyone to know the amazing grace and forgiveness that we’ve been given, no matter their past. Think about it: We all have a past. We’ve all made mistakes. But God forgives us—and if we want to be true followers of Jesus, we need to forgive others too.

In Matthew 18:21-22, Jesus teaches us about forgiveness, saying, “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’” We are called to forgive and love as Christ does.

Here’s the thing: Even the people you struggle to forgive are loved by God. How amazing is that? God’s love isn’t just for us—it’s for everyone. And when we step out of our comfort zones and forgive, we’re reflecting that same love God has shown us. The truth is, none of us are perfect. We all fall short, but God’s forgiveness is available to everyone who comes to Him.

So, let’s step out of our comfort zones together. Let’s be bold in our faith and share the message of Jesus with others. It’s not always easy, but I promise you, when we do, God will equip us with everything we need. We may feel uncomfortable, but that’s where His strength shines the brightest. He’ll give us the courage to reach out, to speak up, and to disciple others. Remember, God is with us every step of the way.

Let’s make a difference. Let’s help others find their way to Jesus, no matter their past, no matter how hard it may seem. God forgives us, and He calls us to forgive others, to love others, and to lead them to Him.

So, get out there, step out of your comfort zone, and let God use you to make an eternal impact.

Here are a few scriptures to encourage you as you step into discipleship:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” – Matthew 28:19

“But the Lord said to him, ‘Do not fear, for I am with you, and no man will attack you to harm you…’” – Acts 18:10

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” – James 1:5
